Guillermo Rigondeaux emerged victorious with a seventh-round knockout at the Casino Miami Jai Alai during a Fite TV Pay-Per-View event promoted by Don King. Charlie Clemente, who stepped in as a late substitute for the fight, put up minimal opposition by throwing single punches and constantly moving around the ring.
Rigondeaux, a Cuban athlete who won two Olympic Gold medals, used his jab to control the rounds, but struggled to hit powerful shots against Clemente’s defensive tactics. In the fifth round, Rigondeaux succeeded in landing a left hook that sent Clemente towards the ropes, but was unable to take advantage of the opportunity.
Rigondeaux secured a knockout victory against Clemente in the seventh round with a solid left hand to the solar plexus. This win improved Rigondeaux’s record to 22-3 with 15 knockouts, and marked a comeback from a two-fight losing streak.
Additionally, the event showcased Adrien Broner, a former four-division titlist, who returned to the ring after a 28-month hiatus to face Bill Hutchinson in a welterweight contest.
