May 20 Fight Cancelled as Amanda Serrano Is Out for Katie Taylor Rematch

The highly-anticipated May 20 fight between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor has been cancelled due to Serrano being unable to compete in the rematch.

The news was confirmed by promoter Eddie Hearn’s promotional company who said, “Due to an injury sustained by Amanda Serrano, Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions regret to announce that the Taylor-Serrano II bout on May 20 in Dublin will not go ahead as planned.

“The teams are in discussions about finding a revised date for the bout. Further details will follow in due course.”

Serrano, who lost to Taylor in their first meeting in 2022, was looking forward to a chance at redemption in the upcoming bout. However, a medical issue has forced her to withdraw from the fight, leaving Taylor without an opponent.

Matchroom stated that the team is now working on finding a replacement for Serrano in order to salvage the event.

This news comes as a disappointment for fans who were eagerly anticipating the rematch between two of the top female fighters in the sport. The first fight between Serrano and Taylor was a close and exciting affair, with Taylor ultimately emerging victorious by a unanimous decision.

Katie Taylor the undisputed lightweight champion in the lightweight division and one of the best female fighters in the world pound-for-pound will now have to wait for a new opponent to replace Serrano. Fans would definitely want to see her in action as soon as possible, but it is unclear who will challenge her on May 20.
