In an electrifying fight that had boxing and MMA fans alike glued to their screens, Tommy Fury defeated Jake Paul to cement his place in the WBC rankings boxing today. Despite overcoming a late knockdown in the final round, Fury’s boxing skills and conditioning proved a little too much for Paul, who couldn’t keep up with the pace set by his opponent throughout the fight.
Fury came into the fight with a clear game plan, and executed it quiet well. He used his height and reach advantage to keep Paul at bay, landing crisp jabs and hooks whenever the opportunity presented itself. “This, to me, is a world title fight… we did it! We did it.,” said Fury.
Paul, on the other hand, seemed to struggle with Fury’s movement and quick hands. While he was able to land some heavy shots, he was unable to string together combinations or sustain any meaningful pressure.
“All respect to Tommy, I will come back, I think we deserve the rematch, I am not sure I agree with the judges, I got at least two 10-8 rounds, “I have already won in life, in every single way. I have amazing friends and family. This is a humbling experience but I will get back in the gym and we will be back. I felt flat in there, I was really sick twice in this camp and I hurt my arm. I am not making excuses but I was not 100 per cent. We want to run it back.” said Paul.
Despite the loss, Paul showed a lot of heart in the final round, knocking down Fury with a powerful right hand. However, Fury was able to survive the knockdown and make it to the final bell.
