Bob Arum, the promoter for Top Rank, will give Devin Haney, the lightweight undisputed champion, three choices for his future upcoming fight. Haney’s previous contract with Top Rank has expired, allowing him to pursue other options. Arum said he will propose three appealing fight opportunities to Haney.
- Rematch with Vasiliy Lomachenko: Arum mentioned the possibility of a rematch with Lomachenko, considering the close nature of their previous bout and public sentiment. However, it remains uncertain whether this rematch will materialize due to the controversy surrounding their first encounter.
- Winner of Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez: Arum has proposed that Haney face the winner of the upcoming 140-pound title fight between Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez. This matchup presents an intriguing opportunity for Haney to test his skills against top competition in a different weight class.
- Shakur Stevenson: Another option on the table for Haney is a highly anticipated matchup with two-division titlist and current lightweight contender Shakur Stevenson. Arum expressed his desire for this fight to happen, although it is uncertain whether Haney will choose Stevenson as his next opponent.
Top Rank Bob Arum said:
“Bill is doing what a manager should do. And that’s to look for the best opportunity for Devin. What I can come up is three in my imagination: one may be the winner of Taylor and Teofimo at 140. If he wants to go up in weight.
“Secondly, there is a fight with Shakur that would be massive because everybody would want to see that fight, and third is the rematch.
“Hopefully Bill comes to New York for the Teofimo-Taylor fight. I’ll sit with him. He’s a very intelligent guy. We’ll discuss all the options that we at Top Rank can offer. And then he has to weigh it against what any other promoter would offer to determine what he wants to do next. But we’ve enjoyed promoting Devin and hope it continues.”
When considering the opportunities from Top Rank and other promoters, Haney and his team will have the final say in the decision. Additionally, offers from other promoters including Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and Premier Boxing Champions may also be taken into account by Haney.
